We’re Tanner and Michaela, the couple behind Oak & Ember. We run a small construction and woodworking business based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We believe good design and honest workmanship can completely transform how you feel in your space.
Oak & Ember was born after years of bringing ideas to life in our own spaces. Whether it was a custom breakfast nook squeezed into a tiny rental apartment or expertly crafted bookshelves for our ever growing book collection, it’s always been about finding creative, practical ways to make a space feel more like home.
Eventually, friends and family started asking for the same. Then friends of friends. What began as weekend projects slowly grew into a full time business. Oak & Ember is the natural result of our love for beautiful, functional spaces and our hope is to help you create a home that feels uniquely yours.
Tanner began working in construction at 13 years old, starting out as a general labourer and gradually learning the ropes from the ground up. Over the years, he’s worked under journeymen in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC, developing a well-rounded understanding of what makes a home tick.
He also holds a BA in Rural and Urban Planning from the University of Saskatchewan and spent four years as an Urban Planner before deciding to build a business of his own. His planning background brings an added layer of insight into how a home functions, from how a kitchen layout flows to how natural light moves through a space.
When you work with Oak & Ember, you’re working directly with Tanner. No crew of strangers cycling through your home or confusion between subcontractors. Just one skilled craftsman bringing your vision to life, from the first email to the final touch-ups. Our aim is to help you create a home that feels uniquely yours.
Michaela might not be swinging a hammer, but she’s the one making sure everything behind the scenes runs smoothly. From accounting and admin to emails and social media, she’s the glue that holds Oak & Ember together. You’re not likely to spot her on the job site, but her work makes it all possible.

This is where the vision takes shape. We’ll walk through your space, explore ideas, and refine the details so everything lines up with your goals. Together, we’ll also map out the project timeline and start date.

Receive your Quote
Once we have a clear sense of the project scope, we’ll send over a custom quote—no hidden costs, no surprises. Just the details you need to make an informed decision.

Kickoff
With the contract signed and deposit in place, we’re ready to get started. Our focus is on smooth communication and minimizing disruption while we bring your project to life.
05.
Hammers, Nails, & Magic
This is the build phase, where design turns into reality. Every cut, joint, and finish is handled with care to ensure the end result reflects the craftsmanship you expect.
06.
Project Wrap-up
When the work is complete, we’ll do a thorough walkthrough together, making sure every detail feels right. With that, the tools get packed up and the space is yours to enjoy.
