Nutana Washroom
Revitalizing a heritage home washroom
This project involved taking a heritage home’s washroom up to modern code standards while honoring its original character. The goal was to elevate the form and function of the space, creating something timeless that aligned with the home’s existing style. To ensure the renovation would last, we leveled the flooring and set a solid foundation for long-term use.
The Nutana washroom was designed to balance heritage character with modern comfort. The family’s needs combined with the compact footprint inspired an open-concept wet room that highlights the unique cathedral ceiling and maintains clear sightlines to the central window. An oversized soaking tub set behind the rainfall shower enhances the sense of openness, while full waterproofing and heated floors remove any concern about moisture or mess.
To soften the clean geometry of glass and tile, we introduced shower-safe wood accents and paneling that bring warmth and texture. Matte black fixtures add a contemporary contrast, and the frameless glass divider preserves an airy, seamless flow. A Japanese-style toilet completes the space, underscoring the design’s focus on efficiency and thoughtful detail.
Each material and finish was chosen for lasting beauty and performance. Quartz surfaces, durable tilework, and moisture-resistant details ensure longevity, while the overall composition turns daily routines into a calming ritual. The result is a washroom that feels bright, functional, and enduring. A modern sanctuary rooted in the home’s heritage.
